Fast f/2.8 maximum aperture allows the use of faster shutter speeds without increasing ISO sensitivity even in low-light situations, which results in high-quality images with minimized image blur or noise.The adoption of three aspherical lens elements achieves faithful point-image reproduction even at the periphery. Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat are employed to effectively minimize ghost and flare even in harsh lighting conditions, for sharp, clear images. Smaller front lens element enables the attachment of a 112 mm screw-on filter when the HB-97 Lens Hood is used. A filter slot is also located at the rear mount opening for attaching trimmable filter sheets, such as gel filters.

Genuine movie recording performance is achieved by intensive consideration even of details such as minimized operation sound, stable aperture control and smooth operation of the control ring.An information panel and L-Fn button are incorporated for improved shooting flexibility.The lens body is designed to achieve superior dust- and drip-resistant performance for enhanced reliability.
